Oldies But Goodies Win Top Float Prize"Welcome Back My Friends" wins Most Outstanding Float in Pittsfield Home Town Parade
July 5, 2006 -- The Oldies But Goodies parade float entry "Welcome Back My Friends To The Show That Never Ends" garnered the top prize awarded at the Pittsfield July 4 Parade. Their third effort at presenting a parade float, the display was a representation of an old-style circus train, with an 1850's era steam locomotive, calliope, circus big top with performers, a lady being shot out of a cannon, and caboose full of exotic animals. The group performed rock 'n' Roll favorites with circus-themed titles such as "Everybody Loves a Clown," "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," Here Comes The Circus," and many others along the parade route. "It's really a lot of fun, and I can't think of another place I'd like to be on the Fourth," said Peggy Bordeau, cast member and artistic director of the group. "We worked up to the last minute, and some nerves were frayed, but we pulled it off. Cliff (Ducharme, music director) and I are speaking again." The Oldies But Goodies is a not-for-profit organization that performs semi-annual musical variety shows for United Cerebral Palsy of Berkshire County. All proceeds go directly to UCP.
